PLDT Ultera Review 2017

It's more than a year now since I subscribed to this so called "super fast LTE" by PLDT. Here's my honest and no bias review. So here's my PLDT ultera review.

It was February 2015 when I applied a PLDT Homebro Ultera Plan in PLDT Office in Fairview, Quezon City. The dark guy entertained me and processed my application. After a few days the installers visited my house to install the external router.

Everything went well (at first)

For the first month, I was so happy. I'm getting an average speed of 5Mbps even if my plan's max speed is only 3Mbps. During that time, Plan 999 will give you a speed of 3Mbps and after you reach your limit which is 300MB per day, your speed will be throttled to 30% of your max speed. So I'm expecting around 0.9Mbps once I reached the limit.

I'm wondering why I didn't get the slower speed even if I download large files, stream funny Youtube Videos and play DOTA. I feel like I was in heaven. I said to my self that I think PLDT Ultera is better than DSL in this case. It was consistent, fast, reliable, no real data cap, and the support is awesome at first. I wan to emphasize the word WAS.

After a month of living my life to the fullest with Ultera Plan, I got a speed of 256kbps. I was surprized and called the tech support immediately. They explained to me that when you subscribe to their plan starting from February you're within the new policy. Max speed is up to 3Mbps with data limit of 300MB per day. After that you're speed will be throttled to 256kbps. Boom! they don't even update their website and inform their sales agent about this.

I can't even use their service for my job at home. I got Globe Wimax which is also available in my area. By that time I'm happier with 1Mbps for 3GB per day. It's consistent and they didn't fool me. I'm just lucky that Globe is reliable in my area (that time).

I tried to go to their PLDT office to request a termination but nothing happened. They are all lazy to do their job. They are all disorganised and not capable of their job, seriously.

It just happened that they changed their policy again. They switched to 1GB per day for their old subscribers for Plan 999. I believed the new subscribers get 30GB per month. But I was included to old plans that gets 1GB per day. I think this is quite acceptable. I have no choice.

Today as I write this blog, I'm not happy with PLDT Ultera anymore. I have a better chance at winning lotto than having a chance to get 3Mbps speed even at night. I have to use VPN to browse facebook and other websites which cost me a money again. I have no choice for now. PLDT Fibr facilities are now available in my area but the lines are still not active. I applied for a Fibr connection last November 2015. And up to now (March 2016), the lines are not yet active.

Would I recommend PLDT Ultera?

If you are ready for headache and if you know how PLDT play with their customers, yes you can. If you want a better connection, go to first world countries. PLDT Fibr gives me hope, I'm getting good reviews and performance. It's just that PLDT's support is shitty. Globe has a better support based on my experience.
